Raphael Balthazar (Tomer Sisley), a dapper, intelligent, and a little odd character, has a unique ability to animate the dead. He investigates the most disturbing crimes in Paris as a forensic pathologist alongside the stern chief inspector Hélène Bach (Hélène de Fougerolles).
But one case in particular—the murder of his wife more than ten years ago—remains a source of anxiety for him. (French-language)
This eccentric New Zealand mystery centers on DI Mike Shepard, who travels to the ostensibly tranquil town of Brokenwood in a vintage car, with a collection of country music, and an unspecified number of ex-wives.
DC Kristin Sims, his assistant, is a conformist investigator 15 years his junior. Shepard quickly learns that Brokenwood is rife with secrets and unfounded rumors.
Bertie Carvel (Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norell) returns in the new season as the enigmatic chief investigator, and the plot of the new season is based on three more P.D. James novels: Death of an Expert Witness, A Certain Justice, and The Murder Room.
Similar to other eminent detectives, such as Holmes and Poirot, DCI Adam Dalgliesh (Carvel) takes us through 1970s England as he solves unusual murders, including the death of a senior forensic biologist in his lab, the death of an accomplished but contentious defense barrister in her chambers, and the setting on fire of a young doctor in the grounds of his family museum.
The remains of a gangland murder victim are found by Sergeant Catherine Cawood (Sarah Lancashire; Julia; Last Tango in Halifax), setting off a series of events that unintentionally take her back to murderer and rapist Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton; McMafia; Little Women).
Ryan (Rhys Connah, The Runaways), Catherine’s grandson, is now sixteen years old and has his own opinions about the kind of relationship he wants to have with Tommy, the man Catherine continues to deny is his father. Catherine, who is close to retiring, is still working to combat the valley’s drug problem and those who sell them. Will she be able to crack this case?
